Does your child consume books and gulp down their pages, or is reading all drudgery and pain?
 
In our class the focus in on making the exploration of story and discussing character, motivations, themes, and arcs engaging and fun! 
 
To go deeper into understanding the written page, we won't just be reading and discussing. We'll be playing games, watching short clips, figuring out puzzles, and most importantly, creating opportunity for every student to feel empowered to speak up and share their opinion. 
 
Why "Compassion Within the Pages"?
Throughout the semester, we'll examine issues by both looking into the past and exploring problems affecting others around us today, and in the process, we hope to cultivate greater compassion, as we sharpen our gaze and strive to view the world through a lens of empathy and justice. In this class, we'll also be exploring how to read graphic novels, works of journalism, and social media with a critical eye.
 
Furthermore, we'll explore how we can activate ourselves around the issues we feel passionate about, as we identify how our resources and abilities can be used to help others.

Some of the books will be available for free online, and others will need to be purchased by the students.
